Lamai has always been considered a ‘slightly less wild’ area than Chaweng… but nonetheless an action-packed area with lots of bars, music, noise, food stalls, shops etc etc… well… it used to be anyway!
Obviously ‘the situation’ we currently find ourselves in has put paid to most of that, and these days – instead of the montage of sights, sounds, and people – Lamai has ‘gone-dark’. This video shows just how quiet Lamai is in these days of few (or none) tourists.
Instead of bright lights from the bars and shops lighting up every road and street there are now many darkened areas with nothing open for business.
That said, as Streets of Thailand actually mentions, there are still a few bars and shops open… but you may need a bit of a walk around the area to find them.
One thing is for sure… you will get the V.I.P. treatment if you stop anywhere, as they will be so glad of both your custom and your company to relieve the quietness and boredom that they are not used to!
An interesting – if rather spooky – walk around Lamai in the night/early hours.
